Maybe I have solved my problem... but still testing..
When I discovered the problem I had a xorg of 1500 mbyte after 36-48
hours of running. I reinstalled xorg 6.82 from ubuntu 5.10 (with dpkg
-i --force-depends *deb and some other xorg packages). I did not have
the 1500Mbyte usage of ram any more, but I still had up to 500 Mbyte
usage and more after 12 hours during a night !! no one was using that
computer, only running with amsn/xmms.
Yesterday I did a
*apt-get -f install to correct the xorg to the version of ubuntu 6.06
(xorg 7.0)
*apt-get update and upgrade to update to the final version.
*installed KDE 3.5.3 from the kde 353 reposity
*removed/cleaned my $HOME profile (expect mail, documents and
bookmarks)
This night the memory usage was only 40 MByte ! ((Yes !)) and today I
hasn't been more than 80 / 85 Mbyte, and was 40-50 when closing
firefox/thunderbird. It looks en feels (very responsive computer, no
freezes for 1 or 10 seconds) good. But I can not tell if it is really
solved, I have to test it for 36 / 48 hours, but I have good hope I
don't have the problem any more.
My advies: remove xorg completely and reinstall it again, without the
debug packages, backup $HOME and remove it, make a new profile/new
user.
