If your e-mail system is a little slow, then there's nothing that can be
done.
I know it works because I just did a test run - I subscribed with another
e-mail address and then left the list with that e-mail address.
There's nothing wrong with Mailman, it must be down to the communication
between the mail servers at lists.ubuntu.com and your mail servers.
Just give it time. Or you could choose to stay and contribute to the
discussion.
I have this list filtered in Gmail to come through to it's own label, so it
doesn't interfere with my Inbox, so if that's what's troubling you, getting
lots of e-mail, (I have nearly 1,000 from the list I haven't bothered
deleting - but hey, I use Gmail!) try setting that up.
