Unsubscribe!

So I'm now well and truly lost.

Do people sign up to the list not even knowing what this is?

First of all:

"We have received a request from <ip> <http://195.194.74.200/> for
subscription of
your email address, "<e-mail>", to the
ubuntu-users at lists.ubuntu.com mailing list.  To confirm that you want
to be added to this mailing list, simply reply to this message,
keeping the Subject: header intact.  Or visit this web page:
<snip>"

So once they're confirmed on the list, then they receive the following:

"If you ever want to unsubscribe or change your options (eg, switch to
or from digest mode, change your password, etc.), visit your
subscription page at:
<snip>"

Mailman isn't rocket-science really, and the page given in that blurb gives
you a text box and an unsubscribe button. Clicking that sends you an e-mail
which you simply reply to (or click the link in) to confirm that you want to
unsubscribe from the list.

Simple as that, really. It may take a long time for the changes to take
effect, but Mailman will eventually remove you from the list.
