xscreensaver-getimage-file: no suitable images in directory

Hi,

Any idea how to configure the GNOME screensaver to use a slideshow? I
know there is a GLSlideshow entry in the configuration tool, and one can
then check the Advanced tab and enter a directory where the images are.
However, as soon as I activate the screensaver it shows the following
error:

xscreensaver-getimage-file: no suitable images in <directory> (after
      50 tries)

The directory I specified contains simple JPG files. Is there anything
special I should do to make the images "suitable"? I searched around a
bit, and couldn't find much information on this. The "Xscreensaver FAQ"
contains a mention to other programs that can be run in order to
accomplish this, such as "chbg" and "xv". I tried with "chbg", and it
didn't seem to help. In any case, the same FAQ refers to GLSlideshow as
if it should work by default, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Any suggestions, please?
