Step-by-step manual to partition HD with LVM

Did you use the installer on the Live CD? If so, then that's
allright - for some reason, the Ubuntu devs decided to not 
include LVM support in this installer (beats me why they did
that). Now, if you wish to use LVM, you've GOT to use the 
alternative CD.

Which partition do you plan to use as your PV - Physical Volume?
/dev/hda1? If so, then you should change the partition type to
8e. Changing the partition type does NOT require that the partition
be deleted.

Dual boot Linux/Linux? That's correct?

If so, then I doubt that there'll be a problem.
