(I've been thinking that would be a great scheme for many years, but
can't justify buying a keyboard I don't need.  I think most people's
brains would be more adept at hitting keys accurately ( esp. the top
row) if they had a more regular layout such as this keyboard.)

I'm thinking you might redefine the keys to move them "out" one column
and give the "inner" ones special functions.  I only wish they had put
some special function keys between the two banks to begin with.
