I've seen madwifi drivers do this from time to time on a mini-pci card
made by askey (which toshiba does use in their notebooks). Do an
"lspci -vv" for gorey details on your pci hardware. There should be
some indication as to who made the card with the atheros chip on it.
you should really try building the 0.9.1 tarball from madwifi.org, and
ditching the madwifi modules that shipped with dapper. Plus, by
building them you also get the helper tools, like athstats, athdebug,
wlanconfig, 80211stats, 80211debug, and more. If you have a crappy
card like me, athstats will show tons of crc errors, or maybe
something else.

that said, the current madwifi drivers still have some bugs in them,
some pertaining to station mode operation. They're not perfect, but
they are getting better.
