Sure, I found something that broke without /etc/iftab, but when I looked
into it, I decided it was a good thing - because using fetchmail's ability
to test the availability of a specific connection wasn't the right way to
solve the problem.  What you want to know is "can I connect to the mail
server?"  You might as well just try it - there's no more efficient way to
tell, unless you use something like whereami to perform the test every time
your interfaces change.

If I find something that really needs to know that a specific interface is
active, I'll be more likely to file a bug against that app than to
reinstall /etc/iftab.
