What Computer to Buy?

Thank you everyone, for all of the great advice.  I've decided to
build my own first PC since it sounds like that will be the most
compatible.

So My first question is what video/graphics cards have people had the
best experiences with or would otherwise reccomend?

My only requirements are that it has DVI and VGA output, and uses
PCI-e (the 16 something one?)  I don't mind installing the nvidia or
ati special drivers if needed. I think that's easy right?
