Dapper-Evolution-Palm-Sync__Broken?

Okay, somehow Ubuntu automagically restored my /dev/pilot device and
things are working again. Here's what I can tell you from my end about
gnome-pilot:

- my box is a Dapper kernel 2.6.15-26-686, fully updated, with a
  Palm T|X, USB interface

- from my experience, gnome-pilot has the same reliability as KPilot
or JPilot, but there are a few things I've noticed:

- things work best on G-Pilot if you only have it, its supporting
files, and ColdSync installed. I have not noticed any problems that
I can tack down to being caused by K- or JPilot being on the same
  machine as gpilot.

- ColdSync must be installed; I got errors in all Pilot software
  before installing it.

- 'killall -9 gpilot-control-applet' 'killall -9 gpilot' are my
friends. I can usually solve HotSync problems by running both of
  those and reattempting my command.

- The the gpilot applet must be open or else I can't get sync to
  work; and,

- I cannot get the File conduit to work. I have been using
'gpilot-install-file --now <insert prc path here>' instead and it is
  just fine.

However, I had a lot of problems getting sync to work and I'm still
convinced that the whole thing is going to come tumbling down at any
moment so if you and your Palm haven't quite made it to shore there's
still hope.
