opening docs from evolution in OO.o 2 (Dapper)

i'm not sure about that but i got a emailed a .doc file last night 
double clicked it , it opened if OOO and i could edit  change etc etc 
then save i didn't have to go through the steps that you had to do.  was 
the document set as read only, were your user priv's set correctly???
