You mean the opposite I presume ? The ATI cards have open source drivers, but NVidia's don't.
Even 2D wise, IIRC Daniel Stone told me that even the 'nv' driver wasn't really 100% open-source, whereas the ATI drivers are, both for 2D and 3D.
