Installed Ubuntu next steps

On a fresh install, there is nothing better (IMO) than 'automatix'
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=190025). Just click what you
need and it does the rest. It installs proprietary codecs and plugins
and a whole bunch of things.

Some people attack automatix because they say it ruins systems. I have
never had it ruin any systems that I have used it on. Perhaps if you
use it on a system that has been running ubuntu for a while and been
configured extensively, but on a fresh install, I have never heard of
it happening.
