But I suppose a WPA-encrypted network reduces that concern somewhat.

I wasn't even considering trying to get the Mac user accounts into the
scheme. The Mac OS X uses a different range of UIDs, for example. But
also, like with the Ubuntu accounts, they exist already and I'd have
to migrate them over, do lots of chowns, etc., and I'm not super
confident that I understand the innards of the Mac's flavor of unix
and account management.
