Sony Vaio - Kernel Panics after install

This seems to be the same problem as described here:
http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=189586



It looks like it is a bug somehow related to SATA hard disks or the
SATA HDD controllers, but whether this is a kernel bug or something
Ubuntu-specific, it seems there is no fix available at the moment. I
also do not know whether or not this has yet been officially filed as a
bug?
