Dapper installation hangs

I'm trying to install Dapper in to a VMware Server Virtual Machine. The 
installation has hung every time at the same exact spot. The two 
symptoms of this are:

1) The ncurses interface is stuck at "Retrieving file 57 of 64". The 
percentage meter is at 5%.

2) The last line in terminal four (Alt-F4) reads "Jul 15 17:57:58 
in-target: Setting up ubuntu-standard (0.119) ..."

I tried to locate some information on this but have been unable to. And 
I found nothing in any of the log files (Alt-F2, /var/log) that 
indicates what the problem is.

Can anyone provide me with more information regarding this problem or 
some possible sources of information to aid in troubleshooting it?
