Thanks. I tried in /etc/modules, with no avail. It doesn't sound the 
place either (but I don't know naught about it), it looks more like the 
place for kernel modules. Is there any other place?

I'm thinking I could also try

export options nvidia NVreg_Mobile=0 NVreg_ModifyDeviceFiles=0

is this a better way?

The solution in /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-kernel-nkc was working till about 
February (dapper) when it broke. I don't know if it's due to knew nvidia 
drivers, but I know the line is ok because it works after I log in in a 
console.

Can anybody confirm that /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia-kernel-nkc is executed 
before X or gdm? If yes, what could be the problem?
