Changeover from dialup to Road Runner problems

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!
I attacked the problem using the old scientific approach----trial and 
error.
Thunderbird's email now works loud and clear, send or receive.

Edit> Account settings :
         Account Name   RRusername at ne.rr.com   (ne=Warner's region (New 
England)
         Your Name:     RRusername      (example:   jdoe     
         Email Address  RRusername at ne.rr.com

Server Settings
         Server type:   POP Mail Server
         Server Name:   pop-server.ne.rr.com    (Port 110)
         User Name:     RRusername   (example: jdoe)

(I left all the remaining settings unchecked---your option?)


Outgoing Server (SMTP) 
         Server Name:   smtp-server.ne.rr.com    (Port 25)
  Check  Use name and password   (assigned during RR activation)
         User Name:    RR username 

Use secure connection (I left default 'No')

I made no changes in the Advanced option

When I first tried running the setup, I got a request for a password.  
Use the password assigned to you during the RR installation.

All my previous email concerning this subject was done in Windows XP.  
This one is being sent via ubuntu/Thunderbird.

I hope this helps anyone else who happens to be peeking and is trying to 
get RR working
in Thunderbird/ubuntu.  No guarantee---but it works for me.  If it 
doesn't work for you, don't ask me......I just did a lot of trial and 
error work.
