not quite a ubuntu user yet

The last build on the daily current CD was done if memory serves May 30,
2006 and version is 6.06. The download site is:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ It's dapper drake and we let
the install partition automatically and got this result. Partitions as
read with slackware's fdisk were hda1 hda2 hda5 and swap no labeling on
any of them I don't know how that happened and /boot was nowhere on that
hard drive. This is a 1999 vintage Dell out of warranty with a 350GB hard
drive installed on a drive sled. I have debian working on this machine on
another hard drive but that was a speakup version and talked so I was able
to install myself. The disk debian is on is the same size ubuntu was
permitted to install itself onto too so I can't figure out what's going
on. Oh, the accessibility start up instructions are at:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Accessibility/doc/StartGuide Probably good for you
to find out what I used to do this install too. I got to the boot: screen
with sighted assistance then hit f5 and then down-arrow three times then
hit enter twice. After that we quit out of the preferences screen and
chose install when install and examples came up. After that the
installation appeared to go fine until it was time to remove the ubuntu cd
and reboot. Now if I put the ubuntu CD in and do nothing eventually I
hear the gnome sound theme come over the speakers but during the
installation I couldn't get speech going and those instructions on the
StartGuide wiki make no sense. The reason they don't make any sense is
those instructions tell you to log out then logback in again and then run
gnopernicus. Only problem was when we did that install, we did not hear
the gnome theme play over the speakers before the installation and
examples menu came up. Maybe we should have waited or quit out of that
box.
