You asked in another thread where I recommended network-manager whether 
there was a substitute for those using static IP addresses.  I'm sorry 
it has taken me so long to get back to you.

The problem that you have above would not really be solved by 
network-manager, even if you were using dhcp.  Finding wireless networks 
is on a more fundamental level than nm operates.  Nm works very well at 
helping with encryption and network switching issues, but not with 
finding access points.  You probably have fundamental issues with 
whether the card is really working with the drivers.

for your card.  It looks like there are multiple versions of your card, 
so you will need to figure out which version you have.

I would guess that you have the vE1, as that one requires some more work 
to get it to work properly.
