Hi!
So Solaris installer doesn't recognize Linux partitions well... it gets
really confused.
You should procede as follows:
1) Install Windows first (if you need Windows) because Windows installer
believes the world only uses Windows.
2) Add Solaris next (it will see the Windows partition and preserve it).
3) Install Ubuntu after Solaris. It will see Solaris and preserve it.
I've had this run on an Acer Ferrari 3400 (AMD64) laptop fine.
Oh... and... if you are going to be playing... dont just use Solaris 10.
Try out Solaris Express (the early access of Solaris 11). It has many
more drivers included, and in general, on laptops, does a much better
job than Solaris 10. URL is :
http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/solaris-express/get.jsp
Solaris 11 uses GRUB. Solaris 10 early versions didn't. A new updated
Solaris 10 (so depends which version you have) also uses GRUB. Solaris
puts GRUB on its partition... So just need to make whatever partition
you want active. The Solaris GRUB can then boot Linux. It should have
entries like this :
title Solaris 11 nv_42a X86
root(hd0,2,a)
kernel /platform/i86pc/multiboot
module /platform/i86pc/boot_archive
title Solaris failsafe
root(hd0,2,a)
kernel /boot/multiboot kernel/unix -s
module /boot/x86.miniroot-safe
title Windows
rootnoverify(hd0,0)
chainloader +1
title Ubuntu
root(hd0,1)
chainloader +1
