messed up my sound

hi all!

I've desperatly tried to get the onboard-soundcard within my laptop to
work (Acer Aspire 1694i). I browsed for hours, downloaded some
drivers/tools here & there and installed them.

Now ALL sound ceased to work. I ususally use a PCMCIA-soundcard that was
working before my messing-up the system. Now, even the sound-control in
the tray doesn't work because it recognises no sound-hardware.

Obviously I messed up something very basic and it would be too
complicated to retrace it all. So, how do i uninstall all sound-packages
& delete their configs & re-install them again? Is there a clever way to
do that?

Thanks!
