changing the gnome start icon

After reading some online sources, here's how I ended up changing the 
start button:

Open gconf-editor
Go to apps/panel/objects. In there you'll see an entry for each item on 
your panel.
Click on those entries, until you find one that says its tooltip is 
"Main Menu". That's the entry that corresponds to the start button.
Click on custom_icon.
Right click on it, and choose "Edit Key".
In the Value field, enter the path to the icon you want to use. The 
click OK.
Make sure that the "Use custom icon" box is checked.
