OT: I never see my own emails, why?

In gmail, you will see your own messages only in Sent Mail. However,
when somebody responds to a thread that you've started, you will see
your own message at the top of the thread.

If this isn't the bahaviour you experience when you use the web
interface, could you describe how your experience differs? Also, which
email client are you using when you donwload? Are you removing the
messages from the server?
