I think all these use growisofs on the back end.  I use it manually all
the time.  The one thing I noticed is that you are using a dual layer RW
disk (Is that right?  I hadn't seen these.).  Your drive may not handle
this format, I don't think mine does.  I'll have to see if Plextor has an
update for the firmware to handle these disks if they are available.
