Automatic Clone of Ubuntu systems

Well, I'm happy to tell you, BEEN THERE, DONE THAT! And I am more than
willing to help you out. I have a python script (originally bash but
decided to upgrade) that is sort a generic system installer that I made
to install an image of an Ubuntu install.
Basically, I took a knoppix iso, stripped it of all the graphical junk
and changed some boot options, used dd/gzip to image my hd partitions,
then threw the image and my script on the cd and respun the ISO. So
when I would boot, it would prompt me with a menu and I could install
the image. I'm still working out some bugs in the python one (I'm a
little busy and a lotta lazy right now) but the old bash one works
wonders and if anything for a reference. I really had to try A LOT of
different things to install the boot loader and screw with the
partitions and stuff (different hd sizes), but it works great. Any more
questions or a copy of the script, feel free to email me at
carl_N0$PaM_ at _N0$PaM_geekthink.org (remove _N0$PaM_). And oh yeah,
fully automatic aside from the menu. You have to customize it yourself
based on your install and partitions, but it's not that difficult.
I would also be willing to set up a section in the script for a network
install via ssh, but I never had a use for it, so I never put it in.
Plus network install has to be pretty custom with address and filename
and stuff so it wasn't feasible in my situation. Last I heard (about 6
months ago), my cd was being used by a nonprofit that refurbishes
computers for other nonprofits to install a legal os (ubuntu) on the
computers, which was the original reason I made the cd/script in the
first place .
