I occasionally have problems with gmail refusing to open a random
message--it'll open every other message, but sometimes there's one
that it just refuses to open. After poking around the help and
unofficial google group on gmail, it was recommended to use the plain
html version. Did the trick. There's a link at the bottom of the page
that allows you to select this. It might be worth a shot.

Do you have any extensions or greasemonkey scripts that might be
interfering with that ajax-y interface?
