AMD Dual Core CPU's

I'm not an expert in this area, but I would say it depends whether you 
really need it. I have a machine at work that is running two dual core 
3GHz Xeons with 4 gig of ram and Redhat Enterprise. It's been a pretty 
decent machine aside from some network hardware problems. But this 
machine gets used for some serious stuff (model checking, we often run 
out of memory) and I would doubt you ever need one at home. The 
advantage is that you really can run a couple of large processes without 
interfering with each other as much, but if you go out and buy and amd 
4800+ and you are just a normal sort of person maybe doing a bit of 
gaming (doom 3 on Linux ;)) then it will still more than suffice and 
probably wouldn't be worth getting the dual, spend the extra money on 
the video card . . . that's depending on what you want to do with it.
