anything nforce based.

amd64 if you're loking for speed. If you want compatibility, then still
go for the amd64 but install a 32-bit Ubuntu.

Probably 64-bit is better for you.

512MB minimum. 1GB is better. You probably won't see the benefit from
more (probably).

Creative x-fi (might take a bit of work to get working in linux though).
Nothing else is even close.
Also, if you get an intel processor and motherboard, the intel high
definition audio is about as good as soundblaster audigy 2 range.

Any speakers you want will work in linux, so that won't be a problem.
Just get a high range logitech or altec lansing set.

anything will do.

lcd's are good, but a good one is much more expensive. It depends on
what you want in terms of size, and quality, as well as how big the
footprint can be (how much room there is on your desktop. If footprint
is not an issue, then a crt will give better value, but is not great for
your eyes. Any make will be ok, more or less, but samsung is always good.

I use the logitech mx510 works for me, works in inux, and is basically
brilliant, something to think about. Not that expensive any more either.
Basically, though, anything is compatible.

will work well, but raid is problematic. If you just want lots of space
but don't want raid, get a 250GB drive. make sure you get sata though,
better in every way.

no

not much. Just make sure you get an nvidia graphics card, they are much
better supported in li8nux than ati.

what i said should fit into that range.
