Advice request for new system planning

As a newbie, I can only recommend based on about a week's worth of
experience.  But I have a laptop with an nVidia card and a desktop with an
ATI hardwired.  The laptop installed with little trouble.  The desktop with
ATI gave me tons of headaches.  So my recommendation is go nVidia.
