kickstart, installing extra packages

I think I am figuring out my original problem.  Now I am wondering
about the post install script.  I am trying to echo into a file, and
escaping quotes isn't working when I do things like:

  echo "He said \"Yes!\", and he meant it." >> /root/somefile

The quotes get swallowed.  What is the right way?

/var/log/base-config-pkgsel.log but it got swallowed by limits on
posting sizes.
