Network issues

Hi,
I have two problems.
1. I use wireless connection by default. So, the boot process waits a
loooong time at "configuring network interface". how do i get rid of
that?

2. I am unable to scan for available wireless networks using the
network configure tool. I have to manually enter the network id. It is
a pain especially when i move between my home and school networks. how
do i do it?
