Dude you couldn't have searched very hard. I did a 30 second google
search for "ubuntu +root +password" and found two different ways to do
what I wanted....
1.) sudo command_to_run_as_root_here
2.) sudo passwd root
The last option ENABLES THE ROOT ACCOUNT which is not a good idea for
security reasons, but in my case (being a total newbie to Linux) I did it.
I found the info on this google search:
http://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial_s&hl=en&q=ubuntu+%2Broot+%2Bpassword&btnG=Google+Search
The page that had the info I needed was item # 7 which linked to:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-34089.html
PS - I just setup Ubuntu on my MAIN DESKTOP as my ONLY OS. Ditched MS
and PAY SOFTWARE FOREVER. I had to figure out how to do this to install
some software that wasn't available in the Universal repository. If I
can do it, anyone can.
