Default root password

There isn't one.  Root is wide open ready for hackers.  :-)

Seriously, there isn't a root account under default Ubuntu.  It's all
done with sudo.  If you need to execute a command with root privs, you
type "sudo my command here", enter your password and you're off to the
races.
