You didn't list what version of Exchange you're using, so I'll assume Exchange 
2k/2k3.  Neither of those are easy to setup via LDAP because all information 
is stored in Active Directory and the Global Catalog doesn't use a standard 
LDAP port, it uses 3268.  You also have to know which server holds the Global 
Catalog.  Then there's the whole issue of trying to authenticate properly.  
On the other hand, when I setup Exchange in Evolution on my desktop here at 
the office, it pulls the Global Catalog for me.  One caution, I've found that 
I can't A) set that account to pull offline or it screws up my calendar.  B) 
use autocomplete to resolve addresses.  Also, occasionally, I have to go back 
into the preferences for the account and re-authenticate to the DC and set 
the Global Catalog server back to the one I want to use.  This is easy for 
me, since I'm also the Domain/Exchange Admin and I know what I want these 
values to be.
