Being a new Ubuntu user, someone pointed me toward Automatix, which
makes things a ton easier installing just about all the multimedia
codecs and such.

OOPs, seems UbuntuForums is down!

Ok, just google for Automatix.
Others I hear prefer EasyBreezy, so maybe it is just a preference thing.
