Can Ubuntu handle winmodems?

I wound up downloading the latest drivers from
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/packages/ltmodem/kernel-2.6/ and compiling
them myself. There was one error message that popped up, but the resulting
driver worked for me with no issues. I think the current version of the
driver is ltmodem-8.31b1.tar.gz. Actually, just checking the above website,
there is an alternative driver available... martian.tar.gz. I'll have to
give this a try this weekend to see how well it compiles.
