How To Remove Brown Background on Gnome Startup?

This doesn't quite work.  I have my desktop background changed as well
as my login screen background.  There is still a short period -- when
that dialogue pops up to list the programs (by icon) being launched --
where the Ubuntu Brown is still displayed.  You know -- the one that has
the metacity icon first?
