AAUI, the goal of the Xubuntu project is to provide an Ubuntu based
distribution that will run on older hardware. In order to meet this
goal, the developers confined the software selection to programs with
minimal memory and cpu requirements. Whatever else can be said about
OpenOffice (and I happen to like it), it uses a lot more resources than
do the abiword/gnumeric combination. Of course, if your hardware is up
to the task, you can always download and install OpenOffice to an
Xubuntu system.
