Joysticks for Ubuntu

Hey all,

    I am looking to get my pilots license, and as such I want to spend 
some simulator time using FlightGear. It looks like a great program for 
this, but I dont have a joystick and was wondering which ones out there 
are supported by ubuntu, and preferably work with FlightGear (or some 
other flight sim you recommend).

    I have a normal analog joystick port on my machine, but I would 
prefer to use usb so it will work on my other machines as well. Any 
recommendations?
