Okay, I tried it with unspoofed, registered MAC/NIC, copied the above
exactly, and rebooted the computer. It took a while "waiting for
network interfaces" (so much so the usplash disappeared and showed the
white boot up text). It connected to the network fine; but with a
"wrong" IP address again. I checked /etc/network/interfaces and
something seems to have appended "auth eth0" to the end of it.

When I deactivate/reactivate with the gui, my "right" IP address
replaces the "wrong" one, but when I click OK on the gui, it waits a
few seconds, then appears to take me back to a "wrong" IP. I
deactivate/reactivate with the gui for a second time, and seems to
hold onto my correct IP.

Okay, tried it with my laptop now. MAC address is spoofed fine,
connects to network at boot up, but still with a "wrong" IP address.

A deactivate/reactivate the once with the gui replaces it with the
"right" IP address. A second deactivate/reactivate doesn't appear to
be neccessary on the laptop.

I am beginning to think this is their problem now!!
