GNOME FastSplash™

Either GNOME forgot to announce GNOME FastSplash™ (replacing the
traditional GNOME Splash screen) or...

The splash screen hasn't caught up with newer faster computers. By
caught up, I mean s-l-o-w-e-d d-o-w-n. :-)

A few years back I can recall watching all the little icons gradually
display as they made their way across the GNOME splash screen. Back
then I was running a computer with a 500 Mhz Intel Pentium III CPU, 256
MB of RAM and a Video card w/16 MB of RAM.

Nowadays I rarely see more than 1/2 of the icons make their way across
the splash before it disappears. I'm thinking a computer with a 2.2 GHz
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU, 1024 MB of RAM and a Video card w/256 MB of RAM
might be the "culprit". ;-)

I miss the slower splashes, but not enough to go back to the old box. ;-)

What's a splash-theme-lover to do?
