Part of the resolutions goes beyond just disabling ipv6 dns in Firefox, you also have to do it at the kernel level. I have to do this because my ISP, a major western US provider, refuses to support ipv6 on DSL connections. I have a default install of edubuntu breezy with ipv6 disabled and a client PII 400 diskless workstation with a 128 mb of Ram attached, booting from the edubuntu server and Firefox just screams, speed is absolutely awesome. As they say, YMMV.
