Firefox 1.0.7 takes 100% CPU [was: Re: Firefox 1.5 very high load]

I have noticed that whenever ubuntu Firefox is "trying" to get some 
data, it sucks up 100% of the CPU.  I don't notice the same behavior 
under Windows.  The implication of that behavior is that instead of 
waiting on a socket, it's sitting there doing some kind of a busy wait 
loop.  It would be interesting to see if the same behavior occurs with 
other applications and if it does, that would imply the problem is 
further down in a library or kernel subsystem.

The only other time I've noticed significant resource consumption is one 
flash is in operation.  Sometimes I have pages with flash that just 
consume all the CPU available and don't go away until I kill that tab.
