Confused about phpMyAdmin and MySQL password settings [SOLVED]

	Thank you. By marking all my MySQL binaries for re-installation in
Synaptic, I have managed to flush out any previous settings and set a
new root password.
	And the phpMyAdmin interface does, after all, use the same passwords as
the MySQL database, so I have access there too.
