installing audacity

killall esd worked.
I understand what it does.

what does esddsp audacity do?
does it somehow direct esd to audacity?

though system sounds doesn't seem too important to me
at this point is there a way to have audacity work
without killing esd?  Is that what esddsp audacity
does?
