You're info is total BS.  What happens if you have a home
network with multiple computers, but the provider of your
inet connection only sees one MAC address? Or, you have a
web server, mail server, etc?  Don't generalize things for
you're setup, it's ... bogus.  Installing a firewall is a "good"
thing.  Get a frick'in clue.
