Few questions before I try to install Ubuntu

I get your point here. But as happened to me, my Ubuntu install was also
"just a try" and now it works since warthy.
I only had to reinstall it once (warthy to hoary) cause had hosed some
things AND to change the partition scheme of the hdd.

This is the same as you said Eric, the partition scheme of the hdd is
the only thing, that can?t be changed from inside the system.

And therefor i recommend a "better" longer lasting scheme (for me).
Which is to put /home extra.

The only thing is to set the sizes of the partions wise.

YMMV and i also understand your point and understand why you disagree.
