New drive mounted with EXT3, but can't write to it?

I've just added an extra drive to my machine, I did an fdisk and made
1 large partition, then gave it the "ID" of "83" (Linux).
then I did an mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdb1
and then I mounted it to
mount /dev/sdb1 /media/160gig
but now only root can write to that drive.. ?
If I do a "mount" I get:
/dev/sdb1 on /media/160gig type ext3 (rw)
What step did I miss?
