gnome system tray lost

I don't think there is a system tray as such, all I normally do is
right click on the panel, select Add to Panel and just pick the things
that I want on it. Eg. time, whether, battery applett, network
applett, window selector, etc. Then I move them around to suite the
positions that I like.... Hope thats of some help
